Caramel Peanut Butter

gaylenwaydelich Sep 1, 2007 06:03 PM

I remember as a child, Laura Scudders made a caramel peanut butter. It was one of my favorite things to eat on toast with bananas.

A few years ago at an Amish restaurant near Akron, OH I purchased a similar product that was packaged in a honey bear-type squeeze bottle. It was a refrigerated product so bringing it back to CA posed logistical difficulties. I thought Peanut Butter & Co in NYC would have a similar product, but the white chocolate peanut butter didn't fit the bill for me - although it is delicious.

Does anyone know of a source or a recipe to replicate that long lost flavor of my youth?

That sounds really yummy...There's a cheese shop in Studio City (ACG) that sells gourmet pbs by PB Loco. I don't know all of the flavors so it might be worth a try...Their cinnamon/raisin pb is absolutely delicious on toast with bananas or mixed into yogurt...

Is there a reason you can't spread on your favorite peanut butter and then add a nice dose of caramel sauce on your own? (I'm particularly fond of Guittard Caramel Syrup, which as really interesting and complex flavor notes: http://chocosphere.com/Html/Products/... .) Bet you could end up with a better, more appealing caramel peanut butter by mixing your own high-quality ingredients than you will if you try to find someone else to mix it for you, even if you can find such a product.

Sounds like what you want is a jar of peanut butter and a jar of dulce de leche (it's much less messy than caramel sauce would be!)

I didn't even know there were flavored peanut butters! That sounds delicious - I always liked peanut butter and banana sandwiches too - but we'd add honey on ours (probably substitutes for the caramel flavor if you can't find it.)

Peanut Butter and Co. has a good selection too, a lot of which are available at Whole Foods.

PB & Co's wares are also (if only in my opinion) better than those of PB Loco...

                Three cheers for cinnamon-raisin!

One jar of peanut butter and one jar of Mrs. Richardson's Caramel Sauce...what a brilliant idea.
