Sora (Brevard,NC) - surprisingly elegant sushi

Though its neighbors are a Walmart and a Subway Sora Sushi in Brevard has decor more in keeping with a high end neighborhood or an upscale business park. The interior is very understated and yet elegantly decorated, much more so than any of the Asheville sushi places that I've been to. I also like that the sushi chefs are on a slightly raised platform. I had a small lunch there, just a sashimi platter and one roll and the presentation of the sashimi was very artistic, not just slices of raw fish as you sometimes get. My only complaint would be that the tuna was waterey in taste and texture, as if it had been frozen too long.

Last visit to Sora was very disappointing. Udon was not the same as before. It wasn't quite Japanese Udon, more like Chinese. Vegetables in Bento were not as fresh as before. I am not sure if cook has been changed. It was not good at all. Maybe owner is busy with a new restaurant so not paying much attention to this one. Will not go again.

Yeah...the quality at Sora shocks the heck out of me. Great uni. The squeeze bottle spirograph saucing of the specialty rolls is sorta weird, sweet, and (I'm assuming here, having never been to Japan) inauthentic - but tasty.

Which is better, Sora or Oumi in Hendersonville? And are they really owned by the same couple?

sorry, haven't been to the one in H'ville. I heard it was the same ownership, but have no actual knowledge of that.

I've never been to Sora but have been to Oumi twice. Can't really recomment anything but the sushi, but it's is pretty good. (I'm no sushi expert, though.)

Sora is very good - I've been to Japan 6 times in the last 4 year and had some Tempura Udon that was as good as I've had in Japan. Being a veg though I can't speak for the sushi..
