Will be hanging out around 34th and Lexington, staying with a friend. We be poor...

Recommendations of places to chow that won't break the bank? My taste tends to be pretty adventurous so feel free to recommend away!

34th & Lexington Avenue is not a great area for Chowhound and cheap dining. However, you're within walking distance of Koreatown - one restaurant after the other on 32nd Street between 5th & 6th Avenues. If you do a search on this area, you'll find many recommendations.

Around 33rd & Lex is Grand Szechuan which has gotten positive reviews Also on Lexington Avenue starting around 29th Street and working down to 24th Street is what is known as Curry Hill - lots of Indian restaurants. Check out Kalustan's for take-out and there's an upstairs section which has a sitdown area.

You're really not that far from other good chow neighborhoods - get yourself a metro card and explore by bus. You'll see a lot more than by subway if you're into neighborhoods.

Check out Ali Baba Turkish Cuisine on 34th between 2nd and 3rd. It's one of my favorite places in the city!

Pete's Waterfront Ale House, at the corner of 2nd Ave and 30th Street, is a great place for reasonably priced pub food.

Re: Kalustyan's. While there is prepared take-out on the second level -- the mujaddarah, a stuffed pita sandwich, is particularly tasty and filling -- there are only a couple of tables.
