Where did you eat on your summer vacation?
I know it's still summer with labor day weekend here, but my vacation is over and I wanted to think back on the good the bad and the ugly. I spent most of the time on the lower cape where chow can be hit or miss and service can be cause for justifiable homicide but there were some sublime moments. The big hits were Front Street, Napis, Devons (in Ptown) Terra Luna in Truro. Each one did their thing really well, were organized and had good service. Front Street has a nice Italianate menu with good wines and attentive service. Everything there was good. Napis has that eclectic charm with some new things on the menu (seared tuna w/ wasabe, and chinese dumplings apps) and old stand byes (Jewel in the Crown [ veggie Indian dish], Portuguese boulliabaise, Shrimp Santa Fe. Everything was great, including the best bread basket on the cape. Devons was terrific. They have a way of keeping things peaceful even in the middle of summer madness. All the food was good. Terra Luna has a nice way with seafood and the inside though small is comfortable. All the apps were good, entrees of seafood and pasta done well. Service was expert.
The so-so places were Bubalas in Ptown and Babes in N. Truro. Bubalas has a great location so the food doesn't need to be great , and it wasn't, just passable. But I like this place 'cause they champion live music and make killer drinks. Babes has middle eastern fare and they do it just ok, nothing special but pleasant. The really REALLY bad was Ciro's and Sals in Ptown. I don't really know why we went there, I guess for nostalgia and reminisce old times, but this place STINKS!!!! They managed to make every meal taste bland, subpar ingredients and shabby interion. My first reaction was to exit immediately but my crew wanted to give it a try. They were sorry. But all in all it was a good vacation and we lived to telll it's tale. What was yours ?
We are just back from the Outer Cape and always enjoy Adriana's. Their pizzas are great and I had a very good ravioli with lobster. Nice atmosphere and a nice mix of locals and tourists. They seem to care about their preparations and using fresh ingredients, which is one of the reasons why locals as well as tourists patronize the restaurant. The food may not be the best on the outer cape, but it remains one of my favorite restaurants to return to.
