Self rising corn meal mix question

I was going to make a new cornbread recipe tonight and I just realized that I only have self rising corn meal mix. The recipe calls for 1 3/4 C flour and 3/4 C corn meal. Can I substitute the self rising stuff? The recipe ( from this month's Cooking Light) calls for baking powder and salt. Can I just leave them out and follow the recipe as is?

Is the corn meal mix straight corn, or is a mix of corn and wheat?

Self rising already has baking powder and salt in it. Depending on how old the cornmeal is you might want to add some fresh baking powder to the dry ingredients. If you have had it around longer than 6 mos. I would definitely add the baking powder but you won't need to add more salt.
