Wawona Hotel - Yosemite

My wife and I will be staying at the Wawona Hotel next week for a night, and I was wondering if anybody out there has eaten there for any meals and what you thought about it. The breakfast buffet included with the room seems to have received good reviews on How about dinner?

  1. I have had the Sunday am buffet several times and enjoyed it.

Last year I had dinner there with a friend who wanted very much to try it (we were camping in the valley at the time...). It was enjoyable, but I don't know if I would go out of my way to spend a lot of money again. The dining room is beautiful, and service was lovely. Our food was certainly edible but not great. It was a fun evening, and fine for a one night splurge.

One must-do is cocktails out on the back patio. The best view you'll get with cocktails, anytime, anywhere. I still fondly remember an afternoon spent there as one of the most pleasant of my life......

Are you sure you are not thinking of the Ahwahnee? I haven't been to Wawona, but friends have, and I don't think it's that expensive. What do you mean by expensive?

Oh shoot, you're right. I'm sorry, my bad. Too many ribs today and ever since then I've been sleepy. The Wawona is less pricey than the Awahnee, obviously, but still relatively pricey. I think they have weekend barbques that might be fun. I have eaten there too, but its been at least 10 years.

You're correct JofR, they are less pricey than the big A, and when we were there a couple of years ago the food was decent, if not memorable. We noticed then that the weekend BBQ is most likely the best deal around, smells were great and it attracted quite a crowd.

Yes, we didn't want to spend whatever it s now at the Ahwahnee but midweek at Wawona is still $200 a night. Had to get the room with bathroom attached. Maybe its not so bad since breakfast is included... I'll report on the dinner if we go. Looking forward to do some pre dinner relaxing on the back patio.

Things certainly have changed in a short period of time, iirc, room with bath down the hall was about half that.

    2. In addition to the previous posts about dinner and BBQ at the Wawona, I would be interested in hearing anything from the OP or anyone else about the breakfast. I, too, have heard some good things about the breakfast, but haven't had the opportunity to try it. I guess I'm kinda looking for an excuse to try it out, but it's a bit of a drive unless I think it'll be worth it.

Okay...I'll stop rambling...any thoughts about the breakfast?

OK, just returned from one night stay with dinner and breakfast buffet. The dinner was very nice. I had mixed reviews from but the meal was great. I had the flatiron steak served with saute vegies and garlic mashed potatoes. The staek was cooked as ordered (med. rare) and the potatoes were real and not from a mix. My wife had pan seared turkey breast served with mushroom ravolies. The sauce was wonderful on the pasta and turkey. Service was fine. We were surrounded by Europeans at the other tables (French, German and Italians). In all I would reccommend the dinner. Prices were comparable to mid level fine dining, ($21-30) for entrees. The breakfast buffet the next morning ($13.25, included with stay) was very nice, medium sized selection, good quailty. Not as extensive as we have here in Reno, but you cannot expect a casino buffet in a national park! The rooms are classic Victorian, small but comfortable. I would recommed coming for a very relaxing time.
