Happy Hour food deals in San Diego?

surfer1966 Aug 31, 2007 11:04 AM

What are some great happy hour food deals? One of my favorites is at Gulf Coast Grill. http://gulfcoastgrill.com/pages/happy...

BBQ Ribs
1/2 rack, house smoked, grill finished
with jalapeño BBQ sauce

They use to have these awesome fried chicken wings but the new owners dropped them from the menu.

ichiban sushi in hillcrest has half price on most of their rolls which won't win any awards, but is a great deal for low priced sushi.

There are several Brigantine's, all over. There's one in Del Mar, and Shelter Island. It's a chain, but a good one.

What are the sesame beef skewers and the surf n turf dumplings at Chive like? Thanks for the suggestions! I went to Miami Grille at UTC today.
The fried chicken wings were really good!

For the more upscale happy hour Laurel (at 5th and Laurel on Banker's Hill) does a 7 For 7 Before 7 special. that would be 7 specialty drinks, 7 appetizers for $7(ea) before 7 PM.

My favorite Happy Hour food and prices are at AZUL in LaJolla.
Very easy to have a fully satisfying meal.
Just the Kobe Burger alone can do that at a good price

                Part of the Brigantine group.

My favorite DT is Chive, like Laurel, they have the $6 before 6 and the $7 before 7…good drinks and tasty food.

I also like the free filet mignon sandwiches at Donovan’s served daily from 4 to 6.

Well, that would make sense. Chive and Laurel have the same owner :-)

I recommend Costa Brava, in PB. Not only do they have the best Spanish food in town (although that's not saying much compared to Ole Madrid and Cafe Sevilla), but they have incredible prices on many tapas (half the normal price) and they have various montaditos for $3. Also, sangria for $2 (pitcher for $10), if that's your thing. And it's not in the Gaslamp.

Just did the La Bastide Bistro happy hour in Scripps Ranch. Got the Duck Confit with Bacon, White Rice, Orange Sauce on Endive ($9) which was pretty good - it's a full plate. Sauteed Shrimp with Vanilla Risotto, Lemongrass Sauce ($6) pretty simple but as always the risotto gets you full and then the Lamb Chops with Parsley Crust ($11) were probably my favorite. Nothing quite wowed me though.

Drinks specials are around $5. I think the menu may only be available in the small bar area - which only seats about a dozen people - though maybe they offer it in the dining room too if the bar fills up. Hours are weekdays 4 to 6:30, except Friday they end it at 6.

Another one - though I have been here in a while is Mesquite just off the 15 at Mercy/Scripps Poway Parkway. This one they offer all night on Sunday and Mondays and then Tues - Thurs until 6:30. I've seen an ad and the website proclaim they have a new happy hour menu so I think I will check it out soon.

Mesquite is closed. They had good sushi...which made sense since the owner is the same person who owns Zenbu in La Jolla.

Tapas Picasso in Hillcrest serves sangria by the pitcher and tapas between $5 - $7. Get there before 7pm...very busy on Fridays.

Has Ropongi (La Jolla) been retired from this topic? I'd say that their half-priced appetizers (in many cases, they are really tapas) between 4 and 6 qualifies as a deal, and I was shocked that they hadn't been mentioned in 15 responses yet. :)

Oceanaire has happy hour with $1 oysters. They also have something that is $2, $3, $4, etc... but I don't recall what as we didn't make it past the oysters.

mr tiki has an amazing happy hour from 5-7 every day. they've got a 5$ menu with drinks, sushi and appetizers. the goat cheese wontons are a delight! eat there, people!

Donovan's--Downtown....filet mignon sandwiches hot out of the overn that are quite a bit larger than the ones served in La Jolla...also, prime fillet burritos...best thing about them?--FREE. I ended up buying a fantastic bottle of Malbec for $30 and had quite the inexpensive dinner. Not that crowded.

I second Laurel's; I went there recently and had some very tasty food, beer and wine for a reasonable price.
FWIW, I've never been impressed by the Brigantine chain, but to each his own.

Inland North County: Tango Restaurant and Wine Bar in Escondido, half off small plates 3:30 to 6:00 pm every day. I've been there at least five times and it's great food for a great price.
