Prince Georges County?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

  1. PG County stretches all the way from Laurel to Accokeek. What part are you interested in?

I can offer recs for the area around College Park and Beltsville, but if you're going to be twenty miles from there they won't be of much use to you.

good point, thanks. It's a big place. I'm interested in the central-northern part of the county so College Park and Beltsville would be good--I'm in Cheverly.

-Da Rae Won (Beltsville): Excellent Korean-Chinese. Get the mandoo, jjajang-myun, other noodle dishes, or anything fried.

-Myong Dong (Beltsville): small Korean noodle shop. Best thing on the menu by a mile is whole fried chicken, which is excellent. Available only at dinner. At lunch, stick with the noodle dishes. Other things -- soondooboo, mandoo -- are not good here, you will have much better luck with these at Da Rae Won, which is just two blocks away.

-Gah-Rham (Beltsville): sprawling pan-Korean barbeque and sushi bar. I think this place is weaker than the other two Korean places due to lack of focus, but they do have some good dishes, and there are a number of things on the menu here not at the other places, including obviously Korean barbeque.

-Costa Alegre (Berwyn Heights): Reliably good Mexican. Best items are the tortas, tacos, and sopas.

-Taqueria Esmeralda (Berwyn Heights/CP): usually stationed in the parking lot of the Los Amigos Market, literally a few hundred yards west of Costa Alegre. They have surprisingly good tortas.

-Food Factory (CP): Afghan, excellent naan from the tandoor, very good bone-in chicken kebabs, other dishes can be hit-or-miss (but you can usually tell on sight).

-Pho Vn One (Beltsville): The best of a few very good local pho places.

-Pho 88 (Beltsville): another good pho place.

-Just Jerk (Lanham): excellent Jamaican, takeout only.

-Taqueria Tres Reyes (Riverdale): more reliably good Mexican street food, as the name implies.

-Franklin's: best brewery in the DC metro area, if you like hop- and alcohol-heavy American-style ales. Food is standard pub fare, nothing to write home about.

Great list! Just wanted to add that, IMO, the best thing at Food Factory 2 is the lamb chop kabob: 3 of the best lamb chops around, includes great rice or bread - all for $9.99!

Also the mussels at Franklins are 10 times better than Belga Cafe, Beck, or anywhere else. Get the mussels!!!

Haven't been for several years (don't know if it's still there) but the Italian place that was a HoJo (at the Parkway and Rt 202 - diagonal to PG Hospital) was always very good. Fratelli's I think, run by Salvadorans.

      2. Jerry's Seafood in Lanham

        1. A trusted foodie friend of mine recommended Red Sky Steakhouse on Rte. 1 in Laurel.

          1. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Yes, Fratelli's is still there and is still pretty good. I'd thoroughly agree on Franklin's mussels and beer (and the giftshop is now open again if you need a rubber chicken on the side).
