Girlfriend's Birthday - Hollywood Area

Hey all, it's my girlfriends birthday next and I'm trying to figure out where to go for dinner.

I would like to go out in the Hollywood area (she lives there) but I'd like to find a restaurant similar to the Westside spots like Joe's or Lily's or Violet. Any ideas? Also would like to get advice for possible romantic and excellent quality Sushi spots for this occassion perhaps.

I agree that The Little Door, Pane e Vino, Il Cielo, and Off Vine are probably closest to what you are looking for in terms of ambience.

I think it's hard to find a sushi place that is both romantic and excellent quality (most seem like such party atmospheres), so I think your best bet in this category and area is to splurge and take her to Sushi Roku.

please please don't take her to sushi roku. the ambience is awful for romance. it's loud and scene-y, and the food so isn't worth what's charged.

splurge? take her to urasawa if she's a sushi buff and wants an *experience* not to be forgotten.

Sushi Roku is icky. It is not on the level of Gen, Ike, Iki, Urasawa or sassabune

If you can swing Urasawa, go for it. Romantic in that is is small, exclusive and very good.

Urasawa is $250 per person (or is it higher now?). Sounds like a great place to take her if you plan on proposing. Not so sure about a regular birthday. :)

depends upon how much he has to spend, how long they've been together and such. I agree, though it is a steep price!

I would try Off Vine -- it's nice and romantic and, I would say, the most reminiscent of Joe's or Lily's.

If you can go to Santa Monica, Chez Mimi is tres romantique!

I second Angeli Caffe..not super romantic, but sorta, and with great food.

Musha can be romantic, if one makes it so..Santa Monica, again.

AOC is good for small plates to share.

Gonpachi has a sushi bar and a breathtaking interior.

Sushi's tougher for "romantic" per se, and I'm not a fan of the sushi at Koi or Katana... I like Ike, Hirozen, and R-23 downtown
