Newbie here, need help finding authentic Chinese restaurant in...
Hello,
My name is Mia and I'm new to CHOWHOUND. I'm hoping to plan a luncheon at a local Chinese restaurant in the East San Fernando Valley or close by (Burbank, Glendale, Los Feliz...short of going to China Town).
Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you in advance!!!
Sorry, no "authentic" Chinese restaurants in those parts. Would you consider Thai or another cuisine better represented in those areas (like Middle Eastern)? Otherwise I'm afraid it's Chinatown, and even then not that many great choices without going to the San Gabriel Valley.

Thanks Chowpatty.
Did a search and read about A&W Seafood in Northridge, Sam Woo in Van Nuys or BBQ Unlimited in No.Ho. Have you been to any of these? Any thoughts?
Yes, I'd be open to Thai.
A large enough of a restaurant to accommadate about 50-60 people?
Thanks again.

A&W is pretty good, and it would definately hold that group of people. It is set up like most dim sum restaurants with lots of large tables in one big room. I don't know if they would rent it out to you but I really like the food.
Sam Woo definately would not work, it is small and cramped and next to a grocery store, and would not hold that amount of people. Food is pretty good though.
One other rec is Bamboo in Sherman Oaks. Its not authentic but the food is very good and the ambiance is very nice. Its right next to Cafe Bizou.

Food at Bamboo is just like PF Chang, so if you like that, you will love Bamboo. Its primary feature is that it is the only Chinese restaurant serving martinis with the food. Most all the rest serve only beer and wine, and not very good of either, regardless of location, name, concept, etc.
Kung Pao Bistro in Studio City does a particularly good job with seafood in an Americanized Chinese kind of way. Soups also good, apps are mostly fried, lamb dishes are good as are a few other dishes. BYO for wine or beer and you will be thankful.

BBQ Unlimited is also very good but unfortunately also unable to accommodate even half your group.
May I suggest Thai food? You could rent out the "Green Room" at Krua Thai, the food is about as authentic as it gets in LA, and you'll be able to house your party.
