Boston Seafood

We are visiting this weekend to move my daughter into school. Looking for a casual, moderately priced seafood place that would be able to accomodate a large party (9-10 people) Any suggestions.

Skipjack's in Boston is one of my favorites. It has an extensive menu and they are good with large groups. Anthony's Pier 4 has the best view of the harbor and is reasonably priced. However, the food is underwhelming---decent but ordinary. But you can't beat the view.

This is not a recommendation, but you can make a reservation for the Legal Seafoods in Park Square for a group that size on line on opentable.com.

I wouldn't say this a recommendation either, but the Barking Crab is casual, moderately priced and able to accomodate a large party.

I assume you're looking for classic seafood New England style. A party that size may be hard to seat at Neptune Oyster or B&G Oysters (both excellent), and the price may be more than your comfort zone. Legal Seafood might manage this size party, but the price may be higher than you'd like -- and while I don't mind the food there, you may see some rabid posts to avoid them.

In fact, moderately priced seafood of this sort isn't easy to find in the immediate Boston/Cambridge area. Dolphin Seafood in Cambridge may be your best bet for food, price, and ability to take this size party. I've had decent luck at the No Name, which may also suit your needs, but there are naysayers on this board who don't like the place. Conversely, you may see suggestions to try Summer Shack or Barking Crab here, neither of which I like in the least for food -- and prices, especially at the former, can get surprisingly steep.

Regardless of where you go, I'd make reservations ASAP if they'll take them.

I don't know their hours or how the non-north end branches, but how about one of the daily catch restaurants?

The only other Daily Catch these days is the one by the water which seems to be universally hated.

Yup -- haven't seen a single positive on the Waterfront area outpost of Daily Catch. Plus the good one in the North End is tiny, which won't work for 9-10 people.

You don't say what neighborhood or what moderately priced means to you. In the $20-25 range, East Coast Grill in Cambridge is excellent. Much cheaper but also good is Dolphin Seafood between Harvard and Central Squares, also in Cambridge.

HOWEVER, a large party like that, this weekend is going to be tough unless you're willing to eat early or late since everyone is moving in to college and taking their kids out for one last meal. Certainly worth calling around, though.
