Need recipe for Costa Rican cabbage salad

I visited a Costa Rican restaurant, Irazu, in Chicago last Sunday and had the best cabbage salad ever. I would like to know if anyone has a recipe for this salad, which, from what I saw and tasted seems like shredded cabbage srpinkled with lime juice and topped with cilantro. They threw some tomatoes, cucumbers and avocado on top. Surely it can't be that easy. I'd appreciate your feedback. Many thanks.

  1. Here are two for you to try:

    Costa Rican Cabbage Slaw

1/2 head white cabbage, very finely shredded (8 cups)
1 tomato ,seeded and diced (1 cup)
    1/3 cup chopped cilantro
1 cup finely chopped red bell peppers
    1/3 cup lime juice
    Kosher salt, to taste

In a bowl, combine cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro and peppers. Toss to combine. Add lime juice and salt just before serving and toss to combine. If you wish, you can add shredded carrots, minced hot peppers, or Italian peppers. Makes 8 servings.

    Latin Carrot and Cabbage Slaw

    2 cups shredded cabbage
    1 small carrot, grated
3 Tbsp fresh lime juice or 1/4 cup any kind of vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
    1 Tbsp chopped cilantro
1 to 3 Tbsp chopped jalapeno or serrano peppers, to taste

Combine ingredients in a nonreactive bowl. Toss well and serve. Makes 4 (1/2 cup) servings.
