Bay Area Seafood

So I'm turning 19 on the 30th and my parents offered to take me out to dinner to celebrate and as a sort of last hurrah before I leave for college.

I've been craving some good seafood... particularly oysters and other shellfish. What would you recommend? My parents were thinking of going to Hog Island. I'd be fine with that so I could get their clam chowder and a big mess of oysters.

Where did you end up and how was it?

There is nothing that comes close to Pacific Cafe on 34th and Geary
East Coast style Fish house since 1977

        No free wine for 19-year-olds.

I'd really have to disagree with Pacific Cafe having the best oysters in the world, or best anything in the world. It does represent value for the money, if you like that style of cooking. But I wouldn't recommend it for this birthday celebration.

Bar Crudo. Excellent raw bar, incredible chowder.

I've also heard good things about Sea Salt in Berkeley... How does it compare?

Sea Salt is great, I'm a big fan of it. But if it was my birthday, and I really wanted seafood and oysters, I'd want to go to Bar Crudo.

Hog Island would be great, Zuni has a really great seafood platter, but I'd go with Bar Crudo, their incredible raw and cooked shellfish and fish would make a fantastic birthday meal.
