Good place for tea/desserts for Mom's birthday

It's my mom's 60th birthday and we want to plan an afternoon tea or afternoon desserts. Any good suggestions? I have heard good things about Ethel's Chocolates and Hot Chocolate, but she's not a huge chocolate fan, so I'd like to find someplace where they have other options as well.

Thanks for your help!

  1. Bittersweet on Belmont - Quaint atmosphere, tea, wonderful pastries and sweets. They also serve salads, sandwiches and quiche. I've taken my Mom there lots of times and she loves it

If you'd like someplace more fancy, I'd suggest high tea at the Ritz or The Peninsula

Thanks! Bittersweet is quite small, though, isn't it? We're going to have a group of about about 15-20 of her friends! I guess I should have mentioned that!

I read about Unique So Chique on Magnolia...any thoughts?

I haven't heard of Unique so Chicque - and yes, Bittersweet is very small!

For 15-20 people, I'd highly recommend the Ritz. The atmosphere is bright and cheery

    2. I did a quick search for "chicago tea service" and found several nice places:

The Drake Hotel (I've been to that's pretty popular), the Peninsula Hotel, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Russian Tea Time.

The Drake is nice- but it is very dark and gloomy compared to other places

I highly recommend afternoon tea at the Peninsula. The Four Seasons is very good, too.

        2. My favorite is the Four Seasons. We go there every year with my mom.
