Coming Soon - Double Shabu Shabu in Allston

Allstonian Aug 27, 2007 03:42 PM

Does that make it shabu shabu/shabu shabu? Probably not. However, I can confirm that there's a sign on the door of the defunct Green Field Churrascaria reading "Under New Management - Shabu-Zen LLC."

However, coming even sooner, from the looks of things, is Shabu Shabu Toki, a little bit further out Brighton Avenue on the chow-loaded block that already houses New Trend Eatery, Punjab Palace, Rangoli, Le's, Carlo's, Buk Kyung II, Fun Food Snackery, and Herrell's. (Whew!) They were installing awnings as I passed on my way home from work an hour ago.

What's going on around the Paradise? McDonalds is closed as is the Jasmine Sola outlet, which hadn't been there that long. I saw a coming sign in the Korean place, can't remember what it will be. Weird that the other stuff closed tho.

The Korean place (was Choe's) is going to be a Cold Stone Creamery - yuck! I don't recall seeing any indications of what's coming into the other spaces, but I'll keep an eye out. I was also surprised to see the Jasmine Sola outlet gone so soon.

Not related at all - the Jasmine Sola outlet (I read somewhere) is moving out to make way for ... regularly priced Jasmine Sola.

Related: I was in that area last night and I didn't notice that Greenfields is no more. I loved that place. Any suggestions on where to get my meat-on-swords fix in the Allston/Brighton area? I know there are places but Greenfields was the only one I've been to.

This block along Brighton Ave may be the best chow block in the city.

I totall agree. Was there last night and was just psyched as to how the number of options is increasing.

It could be (Shabu Shabu)2. The higher order transfinite cardinal of infinite boiled stuff.

Saw that on my way to Sunset on Mon -- besides the renowned beer selection, the kitchen at Sunset happens to make very good sweet potato fries -- firm, stiff and crispy.

FYI for all: Toki is now open. I'd go and post a report but I can barely afford to eat at home right now, so dinning out isn't an idea I should even entertain. To anyone who does go, can you report if they have a vegetarian broth option?
