First Anniversary Dinner?

Hi All,

My husband and I are planning a weekend anniversary celebration in Boston. Friday will be Fenway franks - where should we dine Saturday night? Prefer romantic but not oppressively so, quieter but not tomb-silent, terrific food, thoughtful wine list. I've been to No 9 Park (several years ago) and loved it. Walking distance of Copley Square would be a plus, but isn't a must.

Appreciate any/all suggestions!

PS: If you're feeling particularly generous with your advice: Sunday brunch? Someplace neighborhoody, fun and casual?

  1. My vote would be Pigalle....great atmosphere and even better food and a leisurely walk from Copley Happy Anniversary

    1. Latching onto your "thoughtful wine list" comment, the choice that jumps to mind is Troquet, located across the park from No. 9.

Troquet's concept is to pair food with the wine instead of the more common vice versa. The pleasant surprise is that instead of imploding under the weight of being a one-gimmick wonder, it actually works, and strikingly well at that.

The wines are decidedly interesting, many of them obscure and hard-to-find (often purchased at auction), and as has been discussed on this board, the wine markup is notably reasonable. The food consistently rises to the occasion, complimenting the wine, while being able to stand on its own merits as well.

Also a plus if you choose a tasting menu with a number of courses: they offer 2-, 4-, and 6-oz pours, meaning you can enjoy a number of wines without seeing double at the end of the meal (thinking you have two dinner dates would be particularly embarrassing on an anniversary).

Tables are a little too close together for my taste, but it's neither "tomb-silent" nor deafening. A nice, upscale choice all around.
