<content>My wife wants steak for her birthday this week and frankly I find the prices at Madison area Steak Houses to be ridiculous. We both enjoy supper clubs for steak, where the steak usually seems to be pretty good and much more reasonably priced.

With us both being relatively new to the area, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good supper club in the Madison area. We were thinking of trying the Pine Knoll in Lake Mills, but if anyone has a favorite they could suggest, I'm open to trying something.
  Thanks.

<content>Just a couple ideas off the top of my head - these places are more cozy and less pricey than the average Madison steak house:

Feiler's: downright shabby but in a charming way, great prime rib. http://www.madisonatoz.com/2006/05/feilers.html

Esquire Club: they may keep the lights down to hide the upholstery, but the relish dish/bread basket with port win cheese spread is a Sconnie delight. http://www.esquireclubmadison.com/

Halverson's: technically in Stoughton, in a log-cabin construction. Hot bacon dressing and spinach on the salad bar - yum. http://www.madisonatoz.com/2007/02/halversons.html </content>

<content>The Stagecoach Inn just south of Fort Atkinson on Hwy 26 has outstanding steaks at very reasonable prices. Have the NY Strip rather than the filet, and you can pick your thickness, as they will hand-cut it for you. In Madison, I would go to Smokey's, which retains a supper club feel--always have the home made hashbrowns, not the fries.</content>
