I was at Shun Fat Supermarket today, and they have fresh lychee and longan fruit on sale. I also saw rambutan and durian in the produce section (instead of the freezer). I just thought I'd let everyone know. Shun Fat Supermarket is in Monterey Park on Atlantic Blvd, between Hellman Ave and Garvey Ave. Its in the same center as the new Yum Cha Cafe.

And if you're OC-based, lychees, longans and rambutans are available fresh at Wholesome Foods, the Whole Foods-meets-Super King food extravaganza at Culver and Michelson in Irvine. They're in the "display o' weird fruits" section directly past the bakery as you walk in.

Shun Fat Supermarket is a great place to shop. Several times a year we drive from NM to L.A. to buy foods we can't get here. We also shop at Asian grocery stores in Westminster, around Little Saigon.

I have major housekeeping issues with Shun Fat -- even some of the wet markets in Hong Kong were cleaner. That said, I'll buy sealed goods pretty much anywhere.

Recently I saw fresh Rambutan at Trader Joes and they didn't look good. Haven't seen them since. Not sure if there is a really good reason you can't get fruit from Thailand, Vietnam etc. I would love to be able to buy Rambutan, Dragon Fruit, Mangosteens etc. I still have to make the trip to buy the Indian Mangoes.
