Looking for Raw Food Recipes?
Hello All. I will be starting a raw diet on September 1st. This is my first time trying this and need some recipes. I live alone so I don't need to make huge batches of food. Also, I'll be brown bagging lunch (of course). Thanks for your help. :-)

I'd suggest you go to the library and borrow some cookbooks or just do a google on raw food recipes. I found a ton of them.
If you're serious about going raw you need do some research get some books so that you have the right equipment to really eat well.

Hey Amethiste,
Congrats on this decision you've made for your health. You won't be sorry.
Someone suggested "Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People" by Jennifer Cornbleet. Here's the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Raw-Food-Made-E...
It's great b/c none of the recipes require any crazy equipment like a dehydrator, vita-mix, juicer or whatever. If you're just starting out, like me, this is a good and easy transition book. Her chocolate cake recipe is to die. I also did what Janine suggested and checked out every book my library had on raw foods and made copies that looked do-able and tasty.
Good luck!

I did raw for a week & felt great, full of energy, but then a bit nauseated. So take it easy. You shouldn't go 100% raw, not enough nutrients & too much sugar. Watch out for that part!
Eating lots of raw desserts isn't the answer. I made marvellous raw brocolli soup! Many vegetables (I'm vegan) taste so much better raw.

I love using raw zucchini sliced in a spirulina slicer as a sub for pasta... then puree tomatoes, onions, peppers, herbs, etc.

So far I've been doing raw "pasta" dishes. I've done fettuccine Alfredo, marinara sauce. I've also done various soups as well. I did 2 weeks raw but have fallen off the wagon for a breach weekend (gotta have crabs!!!) I shall get back on the wagon in the morning. I found good recipes at www.goneraw.com

Give this website a look: http://gliving.tv/greenchefs/alissa-c...
we made the "lasagna" and "ravolis" from the Pure Food and Wine recipes. Time consuming and a LOT of nuts, but pretty tasty, especially the lasagna, though I made it at the height of the tomato season, which helps! Still, lots of other good recipes on this site.

I'm curious about your fettucine alfredo - what goes into that and how does it taste?

I guess I am new to this "raw food craze" and don't quite get it... why can you cook some food such as pasta but not other foods? Why can't veggies be cooked? How do you get protein? Is this like a vegetarian thing too?

The pasta is not actual pasta but yellow squash and zorching that have been sliced paper thin using a peeler or device specifically made for this purpose. The theory is that the raw veggies contain more nutrients than cooked veggies. Certain raw foodist say that raw foods contain enzymes that benefit the body. However a Dr. friend of mine (who is also doing the raw diet) says that is BS because stomach acids would neutralize any enzymes. Protein is found in all foods in some amounts. However the biggest source of protein in a raw diet would be raw nuts. Most raw foodists are vegans however I am an omnivore when not on the raw diet.
I hope that answers your questions.
Cheers!
