Good Mexican in Northern NJ?

Any good Mexican out there? We're in Sparta - would be willing to go as far as Montclair. We already know about Rattlesnake Ranch, but we're not big fans.

  1. Try Taco Of The Town in Sussex. BYO. Authenic.

    1. If you're willing to go as far as Montclair (where you definitely won't find good Mexican food), try Los Tapatios in West Orange!

Where in West Orange? I go there regularly, but have never even heard of it.

Los Tapatios is located at 10 Main Street in West Orange several doors down from the Town Center Post Office. And yes the food is very good and traditional. While they are not Mexican there are a number of very good Latin American Places in this area. El Salvadorena on Main Street past the Edison Museum is a very good one and a fantastic puposa place opened recently on Valley Street just off of Northfield.

      2. Jose's Mexican Cantina in Warren is my favorite. Reasonable prices and menu beyond the usual. It's a little farther from you than Montclair, but not much.

        1. Chili Willy's at 702 Main Street in Boonton. Small Storefront place, BYOB. I have not been there for a couple of years but every time I went it was really good. Nice attentive service and everything super fresh, even the salsa. I stumbled across it many years ago shortly after it became a Mexican place. I had been a rotisserie chicken take out with a few tables and the owners Wife started doing Mexican specialties. Things went so well he changed the whole menu over. Lord this was about 15 years ago I think. Last visit was about two years ago. I think I read at some point that the son was running the place

          1. Don Jose on route 10 in East Hanover. I go there for lunch all the time and the quality is always great. You never feel that "heavy fullness" you get after eating at lower quality Mexican places. Plus they have the best salsa I've ever had. And, yes, this is *way* better than the 'Snake.
