Dinner for 8 Downtown?
I am meeting up with my folks and sister for dinner in Chicago and I have been tasked with picking the spot. We are staying around the 800 Block of Michigan Ave but are willing to travel some what (not out to the 'burbs). My sister is bringing her two kids (ages 8 and 4). No one has any special food type in mind, but my family likes to keep it pretty pedestrian (i.e. no indian, thai, etc).
Any suggestions? Perhaps some place to get chicago style pizza?
I would suggest Meritage - great food, casual and a great big outdoor patio that is always filled with families and a diverse crowd. If you want someplace closer to your hotel, I'd suggest the Greek Islands on Halsted. Great food, exciting atmosphere and accomodating a party of 8
Since you're in the middle of the city's restaurant district, there's no need to drag everyone to another neighborhood, especially with little kids; there are plenty of places within a short walk of your hotel.
For Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, Giordano's location on Rush Street is a block away. www.giordanos.com You may want to order your pizza ahead of time to avoid having to wait 30-45 minutes while your'e seated for it to bake. Gino's East location on Superior isn't far, either. www.ginoseast.com
Another place that's good for families is Grand Lux Cafe on Michigan Avenue, www.grandluxcafe.com
