Anniversary Dinner

  • 7

It is my 15th wedding anniversary next month and I think my husband is surprising me with theater tickets. I am looking for a restaurant in the theater district or downtown that 1. We can get in to. 2. isn't jammed with people. 3. Has an interesting menu and 4. Is worth any hype that is out there. (Sorry, there was so much hype about Salt House and I didn't like it). Since we have to make an 8:00 curtain and don't want to be rushed, I am thinking we will eat about 5:30 - 6pm. Lastly, we will eat just about any kind of food. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I'd suggest Ame in the St. Regis Hotel, the Dining Room at the Ritz Carlton or Fleur de Lys. I don't think you'd have much problem with crowds at that early hour, but I'd certainly get a reservation. Happy Anniversary!

Thank you for the suggestions. I will check these places out.

Would you really recommend the Dining Room or Fleur de Lys as a good pre-theater option? Both seem to be destinations in themselves, not a kind of place I'd want to either be watching my watch or telling my server I had to be out the door at 7:30.

i think the dining room at the ritz is indeed a destination in and of itself. you'll want to spend 3 hours there, so as amazing as it is, probably not the best option for pre-theater...

You're right, I was focusing on a nice dinner and not factoring in the theatre tickets - duh!

        2. Not close to theaters, but Restaurant Gary Danko. Probaby would go to Postrio near the Theater area.

How about Cortez? We were there a couple of years ago & had the small plates. Although I thought it was a bit expensive for the portions, the food was good. They did have some nice wines as well. Sorry I don't have a more recent report.
