Granny and Papa's Smokehouse BBQ [Visalia]

Twins Selena, Sabrena, and their mom, Helen, catered a large birthday celebration in Fresno yesterday for the family and did an outstanding job. I did a search on the CA board and didn't find anything about them. We had tender sliced tri-tip in a nice smoky BBQ sauce that was nicely restrained in its sweetness and tomato flavor. Baked chicken was seasoned to perfection and fall off the bone tender. Sides included a nice green salad, pasta salad, and well prepared pilaf, but the hit was Mama's green beans with bacon that could make a meal in themselves.

GP's is located in Young's Market at 3535 W. Walnut (at Demaree). 559-733-3434, online at: http://www.grannynpapasbbq.com

Open Monday thru Saturday, 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM

Slight disclaimer: These wonderful folks have been officially family since my godson's wedding this past spring, however, I have no interests in or connections to the business whatsoever, other than finding ways to sample their fare more often. The pork ribs, collard greens and mac 'n cheese are at the top of my list. Look forward to hearing some reports from the hounds.

  1. I'll make my disclaimer up front. Selena is friends with a member of my family.

I'm glad you posted this, they have been doing some great stuff. I love the tri-tip.

Many people may not have heard but back in March, they were invited to send a sample of the food to The Oprah Show. The show staff loved the food and supposedly is still interested in featuring it in a future episode. But just the mention of the Oprah name increased their sales at the shop in Visalia.

    1. Thanks for the tip, PB. It looks as though they have some Creole/Cajun menu items as well (not sure of the availability of these items, but the website says they have them)! Looks like hubby and I will have to find a reason to mosey on down to Visalia. The website says they are only open as a restaurant on Saturday in front of the Young's Market from 10:00am to 4pm. So are they now open during the week as well?

Just went back and looked at the FAQ on the website. I'm guessing other than Saturdays one would have to call or email an order in for a party pack. Might be worth a call (or email) to check. Be sure and post any additional info.
