Jfood in NOLA - Commander's Review
Thanks to all the NOLA chowhounds for their recos and advice. Thought it proper to report back on the trip to bring little jfood to college.
Commanders – Still one of the most beautiful restaurants in town, Commander’s renovations post-K created a beautiful atmosphere to serve beautiful food. We were asked which room we preferred and we started on the top floor looking at a beautiful garden roo, next was a brightly lit room on the third floor and lastly the main dining room. Jfood likes the hustke and bustle of the main and they were comfortably seated there. The servers were perfect in every regard, they knew the dishes inside out were able to describe, recommend and most importantly listened to what the jfood were looking for and pointed them down a very nice path.
Since jfood had a wonderful gumbo at brigtsen’s he did not want to compare/contrast and decided to order the Forever Roasted Pulled Pork” for an appetizer. This was served in edible ring and the texture of the pork was perfectly tender, cooked “forever” to create a tenderness that could only be experienced and not described. Surround the pork were two different sauces to complement the pork. Jfood gives a 10 to this dish.
Shrimp and pompano with citrus extras – both m&m jfood ordered this dish as their entrees. The Pompano is a wonderful flavored white fish and the chef overlaid pineapple, mango and lemongrass and other summery flavors with the fish. Atop the fish were two White Gulf shrimp. The flavor was bright and wonderful, the portion size nice, but not overwhelming and the fish perfectly prepared. Another 10 from Jfood.
Bread pudding souufle – what can you say about the best dessert in the world, and jfood just cannot rave about this dish any more. The bread pudding is rich with cinnamon and raisons; the meringue is perfect on top and then the best part, the bourbon sauce. If jfood could give a number higher than 10 on his 1-10 scale this dish would receive it.
Chocolate molten cake – To accompany the bread pudding soufflé, the jfoods ordered the chocolate molten cake. It was difficult to appreciate it next to the bread pudding so the jfoods finished the pudding then moved to the cake. This was also a perfectly prepared rendition of what many think is an over the hill dessert. Jfood disagrees. For the true chocolate lover, this is still a classic. Jfood gives this dish a 10.
