HELP! need recommendation for south philly bakery

We're having a housewarming party next weekend and decided to have all the food come from south Philly stores since we just moved to south Philly. Naturally, we're having antipasto and mozzarella from Caludios, bread and goodies from Sarcones, soft pretzels, & water ice. My plan was to have Isgros supply dessert but I just found out they are on vacation until September 4th and I'm crushed. Is there another bakery in South Philly that I can contact? I've only ever gone to Isgros because their desserts are so awesome!

Just to let everyone know, I ended up going with a small cookie tray from Terminis. It definitely didn't compare to Isgro's, although i didn't expect it to! But, it served it's purpose. Thanks for all the posts!

Having grown up in South Philly with family still there - don't go to Termini's. Go to Potito's.

I agree with that. Potito's was always my favorite with Varallo's coming in 2nd.

If you can't find a bakery that's open, I'd also suggest cake or pie from the Melrose or Oregon Diners. Melrose's buttercream icing is delicious. Or cookies from Famous 4th Street Deli.

While Isgro's is always my first choice, I also highly recommend Potito's at 16th and Ritner. Wonderful canolli.

Frangelli's on 9th and Ritner makes some very good stuff too. And they've just reopened from their vacation.

Cosmi's is closed until September.

No. Everybody needs a vacation and it makes sense for a bakery to close during the hottest time of the year.

Unfortunately you have bad timing....almost all the Italian bakeries close for the month of August for vacation. But here's a list you could try:

Another vote here for Termini's. Their desserts are absolutely delicious. My personal favorite is the cannoli.

Termini's is great. They can also do mini cannolis and key lime tarts by the dozen. They are fabulous!
