My Vegan Dad is Visiting...

In a week and a half, my dad and stepmom are coming to check out my new digs in L.A. (Los Feliz). I imagine we'll be eating out a lot, but I'm not quite sure where to go --- I've only been here a few months.

My Dad is vegan, but not a strict one -- he will occasionally have dairy. I know that I don't want to spend a week eating vegan/vegetarian but at the same time I don't want to hit too many restaurants where my Dad's only options are salads.

Any suggestions for us? How about a stellar vegetarian place, and indian place, and maybe a Mexican place that we all can enjoy?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Enjoy a meal at a mediterranean/middle-eastern resto where Dad can feast on hummus, tabbouli, mujaddara, muhammara, babaghanoush, falafel, zaatar, grape leaves etc while you can enjoy meatier options. I'm not too familiar with your neck of the woods but perhaps someone here knows a good eastside spot.

Vegan Plate in Studio City (north side of Ventura, just east of Laurel Canyon). It's Thai, but they also have wraps & veggie burgers. Good lunch plate.

            Try these:

For some fast and fast casual option, I recommend Pei Wei, PF Chang's, and Chipotle Grill. Those three should be able to accomodate everyone.

Lawry's, Morton's, Langer's, Philippe. Any of those should cure him.

Wow, Follow Your Heart is still around? I ate soup there when I was a kid, but I haven't been back to the Valley in decades, now that I think about it. It is a *very* long way from Los Feliz, though.

If you're up for a long drive for Indian food, I'd recommend heading to Artesia.

Farfalla at 1978 Hillhurst (in Los Feliz) is very good and has more vegetarian stuff than just salads. Get there early. 323-661-7365

I've never been to Home, just a bit farther south (going towards Sunset) at 1760 Hillhurst, but I know people who are crazy about it. 323-665-HOME

Follow Your Heart is Still artound and still good! I like the BYOB with no corkage policy! The outside porch is nice, and the food pretty darn good. Nothing like healthy and flavorful vegan/vegetarian food served up by hippie/out there people with your own bottle of wine. Great soups, salads, entrees, desserts pizzas, breakfasts sandwiches and more.

Plus, the market means you can stock up on vegetarian/vegan staples that are hard to get sometimes.

I second the recs for Paru & Madeleine.

A great place for casual lunch is inside the Golden Bridge yoga studio (on DeLongpre btwn Vine and Ivar). They make both hot and cold items, feature a stellar salad bar, sandwiches and baked (and raw) sweets too.
I am an unabashed omnivore and Golden Bridge (actually called Night Moon Cafe, I think) is so good that I eat there at least once a week.

Go to Rahel for Ethiopian on Fairfax.

Paru's for Indian or Electric Lotus is in Los Feliz

Madeleine Bistro in Tarzana for great veggie food

                      Newsroom Cafe can accommodate everyone

Cinnamon could do for nouveau Mexican; Kay and Dave's will accommodate veggie and non-veggie; there's also Leonor's

For upscale, Inn of the Seventh Ray.

Don't know how far you want to travel, but if you happen to day trip around, check out any of these (in no particular order)...

I second the Elf rec, especially since you are in Los Feliz. Also concur with the M Chaya rec - love their veggie burger and peanut kale!
