Los Paisanos in Port Chester

Feeling a little bit guilty that I hadn't scouted out anything new in PC for some time, I figured I'd finally give this place a try. I'm a sucker for a place that has a home made sign out front. Even more so that it's had the same big, poorly drawn sign for the last five years or so. Its always seemed particularly divey, (more than most PC places) so I guess I just never seemed to give it a try. On Friday, I finally went there for lunch.

This is definitely the most divey of all the places I've been to in Port Chester (ok, with the exception of Luis' Mexican on the post road near willow st. oh, and maybe el zarape... I guess they'd all fit into the same category).

Also, the very nice lady there speaks literally no english. And since my spanish is limited to my ability to order from a menu, that's the extent of the conversation we had. I was able to ask her what her favorite thing on the menu was and she said chivo. I like goat, so that's what I ordered. Two tacos, one chiva, one carnitas.

The carnitas wasn't too bad. Not as moist and succulent as it should be, but quite flavorful, and not dried out. The chiva though was very good. Big tender pieces of goat that had been slowly cooked until it was fall apart tender. It wasn't really birria de chivo, which is usually stewed chivo in a rich broth, it was much more minimal. just goat slowly simmered (I presume) in a nice broth. But the goat flavor really came through and it was very, very tender. With some onions, cilantro and their thick and fiery salsa verde, it was a very nice taco.

that's all I tried there. Not sure if much else there is good (could be, just don't know), but if you are in the mood for a good goat taco, this is the place for it.

adamclyde, if you like authentic, have you tried the ox tail at the Jamican place on Battle Hill in White Plains. Never had ox tail before and wouldn't have it again, but it was quite good. They have goat there too. Oh, and the parking is free.

I love oxtail and goat curry, but haven't tried it at that particular place. There's a place in Stamford I get my goat curry fix from... Been meaning to get to that place for some time now.

How's the jerk chicken and pork there?

not to get off topic, but what's the place in stamford?

Carribean bakery on West Main (near the Midas auto place), or Top of the Hill on Broad (next to Dominos pizza near the hospital).
