NOVO - St. Petersburg
My husband and I went to Novo in St. Pete off of 4th Street. I haven't seen a review on here so I thought I would let you all know of our experience. It appears the owner of several of the Bay area Applebee's and Johnny Carino's is breaking off from the owner's of the Applebee's franchises and is taking his ownership of Johnny Carino's and turning them over to a Mediterranean inspired restaurant. This is his first Novo and is working on changing over the ones in Sarasota and Bradenton, with the hopes of turning all of the Carino's he owns in the Bay area to Novo's. At least this was the explanation from our waiter. We had not been to this location when it was a Johnny Carino's and from what I hear the inside hasn't changed much. It was very warm and inviting. The lunch menu appeared to be a scaled down verison of their dinner menu.
We started with the calamari - which was nicely done with an aioli sauce. Very tasty. I ordered the spicy chicken flatbread. It was good, but there was nothing spicy about it. When it came out it was pretty crispy but as I took my time eating the crispiness disapated. My husband tried the Milano Chicken Sandwich which he said was very good and a nice deviation from your classic chicken sandwich. Though it might not be the best place in town, we both said that we would come back to try some of their other menu items and it's a nice alternative to Bonefish. The wine list looks decent, not exceptional.
If anyone else has been, I'd be interested in hearing your experience.

Thank you for the review. I was curious about this place. What other kinds of things were on the dinner menu?

They had a filet wrapped in prusciutto and had a blue cheese crust to it. Sounded tasty. They had several pastas and an 11 layer lasagna. Several of the flatbreads were on the menu- one of which was serrano ham with figs. The lunch menu had several salads including a Novo chop salad. Sorry my memory isn't much better.

I really enjoyed my meal at Novo. I started out with the stuffed mushrooms and the were great! I love stuffed mushrooms and these were so perfect! My date had the calamari as an appetizer and he really liked that. For my main course I just had some plain old angel hair pasta in marinara sauce... but I must tell you that it was some really great pasta, it tasted home made and thats how I like it! I really like the setup of the restaurant also it had a very intimate feel to it, we also had excellent service our waitor really took good care of us. I'll be going back soon and I'll try and post about my next yummy experience there.

Laura Riely reported at the beginning of April that Novo closed. Is this correct or not?
