Review: Heirloom, Midway, KY- Hidden Gem in Small Town
We just returned from lunch at Heirloom in Midway, and I am already looking forward to our next visit. The atmosphere, a refreshing interior with clean lines and a modern twist, is unique among small town restaurants. High back booths and square granite tables are accompanied by a small wooden bar in the back corner. The food, presentation, and service are ideal accompaniments to such a distinctive atmosphere.
Not only did Heirloom live up to the hype, but we enjoyed reading an article about Heirloom in a regional magazine while waiting for our food. We learned that Heirloom makes everything from scratch and does not even own a walk-in freezer. That explains a lot.
For lunch I ordered the Mary burger topped with white cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, and a tomato slice. Definitely one of the best restaurant burgers I have ever experienced. The tomato tasted homegrown and the burger was perfectly seasoned with subtle flavors of a hand-patted, homemade, backyard cook-out burger. Thin french fries and rippled, cracked peppered chips were both tasty sides. For dessert, we passed on the homemade double dutch chocolate ice cream when our waiter recommended the apple crisp. We did not regret our decision. Apples surrounded by a sugared pastry shell, caramel, and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream led to one clean plate.
Total bill with two beverages, tax, and 20% gratuity: $36.48
Thanks so much for the review. I have heard about this place, but I always forget about it when we are thinking of new places to try. I think I'm going to talk the husband into taking me there this weekend. I may not be able to pass up the double dutch choc. ice cream though....maybe I'll just make my husband get the apple crisp so I can have both!
