Mexican outside of Boston?

bitsubeats Aug 25, 2007 07:58 AM

I know about most of the mexican restaurants within the city, but I am looking for restaurants outside of the city (30 mins outside at the most) that are considered authentic mexican.

After doing a bit of searching I found out about mexico lindo in melrose and was wondering what people think about it.

Taqueria Mexico in Waltham is decidedly well worth going to. The outpost in Lynn also does good food, but the digs are really grotty. Last I heard, there were also outposts of Tacos Lupita in Lynn, Lawrence, and Revere besides the one close-in in Somerville; haven't been to these outlying ones.

went to taqueria mexico in waltham a long time ago with my boyfriend. The food was really good until I almost swallowed a piece of glass in my food ):

I love taqueria lupita, but am looking for something different cause I always eat there

      thanks for the suggestions though

El Serape in Braintree; La Paloma in Quincy. Still a bit inauthentic but they're better than the bland Acapulco's chain

I like Mexico Lindo- And you can ask them to make things not on the menu. If you go, I recommend sitting on the patio in the back- the restaurant can ger really busy and loud. I really like the refried beans. atime I was there, they had a crabmeat dinner on the specials board- so good. I like the margaritas ( can get them by the pitcher), though I have seen posts by others who do not care for them. If ;you don't get dessert at MExico Lindo- a few doors down you can get some ice cream or gelato ( Cold Rush). It is a few doors down, to the right of the restaurant, near Papa Gino's.

Sorry- it is in Melrose- Right in Main Street. Not sure where you are located- but Melrose is the city between Malden and Wakefiled- and it also borders Saugus, Stoneham and Medford.

I third La Paloma! Great dinners, chips, salsa, and drinks. Nice people too.

La Paloma's OK but I wouldn't calll it authentic by any stretch.
I asked the barkeep for a rec the last time I was there and was told the steak tips were great.
Seeing my surprise she said they were done "Mexican Style."

I didn't try the steak but all of the beef dishes I've had were of the seasoned ground variety.
Tasty and a fun place but not very authentic.
                Great service too.

We like Cafe Azteca in downtown Lawrence. Very good food, reasonably priced, sweet service and a local hangout.

Hi I would suggest Tres Amigos on Rte 28 (Main St.) in Stoneham. This is a small place with no liquor license but you can BYOB if you like. I find the food very authentic and very reasonable too. It is a family run place and they are very accomodating. Try anything with the chile verde but I also love their carne asade tacos which you can get with soft freshly made tortillas.

I'm newly obsessed with Taqueria El Amigo on the boarder of Waltham and Watertown. Excellent carnitas tacos with avocado, good horchata (though not as cinnamony as I like) and really sweet service. I don't like their tortas as much as Lupita.

                Hi,

El Sarape in Braintree is excellent, and much closer to the holy grail of "authentic" than many of the Mexican restaurants around Boston.

In Cambridge, I also enjoy Jose's Mexican. While it's probably not all that authentic, the food is quite good, and it's a very nice atmosphere.

Well, it's kind of on the "border" (pardon the horrible pun) of your driving limits, but "Mexico" in Providence is quite good. It's on the Latino end of Atwells Ave.

As for Mexico Lindo, I like it as well.
