We finally got around to trying Dishes tonight and found it very appealing. The prices were reasonable, the service was friendly and efficient, and the food was good.

The Bruschetta metioned in a previous post seems to have been eliminated. We were served some sourdough baguette with little dish of a cream cheese and sundried tomato concoction. Oil and balsamic vinega were also brought without being asked for.

We started off splitting a Mediteranean Salad. It consisted of a mixture of greens (oak leaf, spinach, and romaine), anchovies, feta, green and black olives, and Costco 3 bean salad with a lemony dressing served on the side. Overall it was sweet from the 3 bean salad, but we both enjoyed it.

Mrs J had the Sand Dabs which weren't on the menu or on the list of specials for the evening. However, when she registered dissapointment with their lack, the waitress said she thought there some in the kitchen and she would check. Sure enough they had some, and several filets, lightly breaded and cooked very well in a lemon caper butter sauce soon arrived with a scoop of rice and mixed vegetables.

I had the Halibut special which was in the same sauce with the same accompianments. It was also cooked just right. My only caution is if you don't like capers, you'd better speak up and have them modify the sauce.

For dessert we split a piece of apple strudel, which was pretty good.

We didn't have any wine, because we were driving down from SF and I was jet lagged and falling asleep. A can of Starbucks Double Shot was keeping me going. However, the wine list was small and not too exciting. They've raised the corkage charge to $18.

The owners are a Brazilian and Austrian couple. I asked the Brazilian if they ever do Fejouada. He replied that he has been thinking of doing a Brazilian night with Fejouada some Wednesday in the near future. He will notify the restaurant writer in the Coast Weekly beforehand.

Overall while I'm not sure it's a destination restaurant, it's certainly a very good neighborhood one. I still want to try their pizza and pasta.

Great fresh fish specials on the night we were there. Poor wine list. Full bar. Really attentive, but not intrusive, service. We will return when we are in the area.

Thanks for the review! I have thought about going there for a while now! I have friends and family in Salinas/Prunedale and I'm in Monterey I'm glad we have a restaurant where we can meet in the middle.
