(PHX) Special Occasion Dinner Rec's Please

scorpioscuba Aug 24, 2007 07:28 AM

I need help from all the PHX CH's! I am trying to find a restaurant to celebrate a special occaision (engagement). There will be 14 people so we need a place that takes reservations. I have family coming from Peoria and Estrella Mountain and the rest of us are in East Mesa. I'd like to find a place somewhere in between, that offers a wide variety for everyone but will satisfy my desire for something unique and different. And finally since my parents are paying, I'm hoping for an average entree cost of around $20.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

May I suggest Havana Cafe on Bell Road? We had a family get-together there once; it has way more room than the one on Camelback and also was central for those of us from the East Valley and our kin in Sun City. And it meets your price range. There are many mild but flavorful chicken dishes for those unadventurous types, and would give you something with more zip than, say, a Chili's or Applebee's. My favorite there is the ropa vieja. Tutti Santi by Nina is also good, but maybe just a bit pricier than you want.

Let me suggest Sierra Bonita Grill in North Central Phoenix. It's roughly equidistant from all the points you have named, it accepts reservations, and it serves interesting Southwestern inspired food at the price point you have identified.

If you like seafood, consider Salt Cellar on Hayden Rd, reasonable prices and they can handle 14-15 people easily. Casual but still a little upscale. Right off the 202 and Hayden as well so everybody can hop on and off the freeway quick.

Good call. I attended a business dinner at the Salt Cellar for a group of that size a few months ago, and the staff handled the event nicely. The food isn't cutting edge, but it's solid quality seafood with a few landlubber steaks and such.

I adore Cafe Boa on Mill - the quality is good and it has a sense of romance and the price is about right.

Another idea might be Coup des Tartes. If you work with them on perhaps a set menu with several choices, and since it's a BYOB, it could make the budget, but still be an amazing, memorable meal. Bonus points that it's just a bit off the 51 freeway.

            Love the Salt Cellar idea.
