I plan on buying a few dozen bagels to bring back to San Francisco and freeze them after my visit to NY, what's the best bagel place out there? H&H? Murray's? Anything else?
ess-a-bagel rocks pretty hard, 1st ave @ 21st street
Agreed re: Ess-a-Bagel
Another for Ess-a-Bagel. Kossar's bilaies also freeze well (see asnet post below).
not to mention that ess-a (as opposed to say h&h) is also really fun to visit -- hectic, loud & new yorky
I prefer H&H Bagels. There's pretty strong feelings about bagels on this board -- you can do a search to see.
Absolute Bagels, 2788 Broadway & W. 108 St. Kossar's Bialys, 367 Grand St. at Norfolk.
Daniels on 3rd and 37th. I do not like large doughy bagels so these are perfect for me.
I like Murray's the best. Ess-a-bagel is OK, but too big for my taste. I'd skip H&H, as the style of bagel they serve is pretty similar to Noah's in the Bay Area.
I second Murray's. They are closest to the bagels of my childhood.
Absolute Bagels: Broadway & 108 St.Lenny's Bagels: Broadway & 99th StRuss & Daughters: Houston & OrchardKosar's: Grand & Norfolk
H&H is not very good IMHO.
Ess-a-bagel is hands down the best bagel in the city.
(Side note: I used to work on 1st and 26th and obtained myself a nice carb belly due to the almost daily bagels...but it was worth it :)
