Update on new Yum Cha Cafe in Monterey Park

Went to the new Yum Cha Cafe in Monterey Park this morning. It's right next door to the Shun Fat Market at the south entrance. Smaller than the San Gabriel location with only 3 tables inside and 6 tables outside. They have a full kitchen in the back and sell all of the same dim sum as the SG location except no bahn mi. I did notice they were unloading a truck with dim sum to stock the store, so maybe they're still making many items at the SG location.

  1. I had to go to Sun Fat today and was surprised to see Yum Cha there. (I totally missed this post somehow). I only have a buck in cash on me with some change so I was only able to get one thing. I wanted something savory so opted for the egg rolls. Everything looked really good. I've been to the San Garbriel location and this one is much smaller, it almost feels like a Yum Cha express.

    1. Gone three times and they always have no more baked char sui bow. I like the San Gabriel location more - faster service, malayan cake is fluffier & tastier, and items seem hotter (maybe because of sheer volume of customers at SG location). I'll still go to the MPK location since it's closer to my house.

San Gabriel location is better, no question -- after three bad experiences at the MPK branch, I've given up and gone back to MHK on Garvey just east of Garfield (since my takeout dim sum needs are usually at 6:30-7:00 AM).
