LA to Yosemite to Tahoe ... Vegetarian?

We are driving from LA to Yosemite (5>99>41?), staying in Curry Village/Yosemite for a few days, and then driving from Yosemite to Tahoe (120>395?).

We're looking for places to eat along our road trips, as well as restos/food sources while we're staying in Yosemite.

Here's the deal -- We're vegetarians, and one of us is three years old. So fancy places are out. As are burgers, BBQ, etc.

Love to hear anyone's thoughts/input on places you've been that had good options for veggie folks. We'd love to find places that have something interesting going on (dare I dream?), rather than just that one veggie option.

  1. See below Gordon Wing's review of Lee Vining/Yosemite. I would definitely recommend Whoa Nellie Deli at the gas mart on 120/395.

In Yosemite we went several times to the cafeteria at Yosemite Lodge. Good choices and perfect for a 3 year old.

    1. If you time it for meals while passing through Fresno, 2 vegetarian places come to mind, neither is very far off Freeway 41.

New Star Restaurant, 1134 E Champlain Dr, Fresno. (559) 434-6363. To get there, take Freeway 41 to the Friant Rd exit (the last Fresno exit before crossing the San Joaquin River). Turn right onto Friant Road, go northeast 1.5 miles to Champlain Drive. Turn right and go about 1 mile to the intersection with Perrin.

Au Lac Cafe, 1495 N Van Ness Ave, Fresno. (559) 237-4052 Take the McKinley Ave exit off Freeway 41. Follow the signs to Fresno City College, the restaurant is just a couple of blocks south of the campus on Van Ness.
