Daiso Japan in Union City is Open

hhc Aug 23, 2007 10:14 AM

I've been to the Daiso Japan in Daly City and wasn't impressed, but I gave it another chance at the Union City one. The store has lots of stuff, things you don't really need but it's so cheap that what the heck..just get it. So many aisles of stuff.

After work went here after dinner to check it out.

I picked up on 8/22/07:

2 bags of Meito lemon candy - a worker there said they are good $1.5ea
Kabaya strawberry filled candy $1.5
a striped pouch $1.5
a Japanese handbag-style mat $3
2 cushions @ $3 ea
a straw mat $1.5
Ion portable brush $1.5

They did have Japanese toothbrushes, combs, ear picks. Funniest thing I didn't buy: Portable Toilet bags. Not much food items: mostly Japanese crackers, cookies, some bagged candies. Household stuff. Everything $1.5 and up.

My total $19.18

No Returns or Exchanges. Credit cards taken. The cashier even bagged my stuff and was very pleasant.

I went on Sunday and it was so packed that I never even made it to the food corner, but it looks like they had a wider selection than Serramonte, .

The Serramonte location was terrible. I was so disappointed with their merchandise! Ichiban Kan is SO much better in both Japantown (SF) and on 3rd in San Mateo. The merchandise there is much better quality, despite the smaller selection.

I love this little place. There's great buys all over the store but I made a killing in the kitchen section. It was hard to not go home with everything. Sure, some of it isn't exactly the most innovative but $1.50 for a perfectly good whisk? I'll take that. Also great if you're into making bento. There were so many bento supplies at such good prices -- I couldn't believe it!
