Fried Chicken in OC

Is there anything else besides KFC in Orange County? I had Pioneer chicken in LA a few weekends ago. It wasn't too bad at all.

  1. I thought most of the Pioneer chicken places went out of business? Which one did you go to? I love their chicken!

beat me to it on your post. yeah, ruth's place is it.

        2. If North Orange County isn't too far, I'd highly recommend going to the Hungry Bear in Fullerton. Yes, it's a steakhouse, but the fried chicken there is extremely good. Plus, the cutesy, ole timey atmosphere is fun.

          1. How about Knott's Berry Farm Fried Chicken? Drive out to Long Beach for Roscoe's?

            1. I've never been but Rosie's Authentic Soul Food in Foothill Ranch servers fried chicken

Rosie's Authentic Soul Food Thank Goodness is OUT of Business

                  Therre food was not Authentic
                  Had No Soul
and could barely be call food

One of the worst places I have ever eatten

              2. You might try broasted chicken; it's chicken fried under pressure. Broasted is a wonderful option to fried. I love it. So tender, juicy! www.chowhound.com/topics/386227

Broasted chicken also at Zubie's Chicken Coop in Newport Beach. Might just be called the Chicken Coop now, as I think somebody mentioned they dropped Zubie's from the name.

The address for Chicken Coop that I have is:
                  414 Old Newport Blvd
                  Newport Beach

But it has been over a year since I've been there, and Chowhound's links indicate that there is a new address:
                  830 Pine Place
                  Costa Mesa

I'll have to check that out soon to see if they have indeed moved.

Haven't been to yet, but have also read Pittsburgh Chicken & Taters and Grandma's Chicken House as serving broasted chicken also.

                2. Katella Deli in Los Alamitos. I believe it's broasted and also served with crunchy broasted potatoes. Enough for two. Yum.

                  1. For an upscale atmosphere, try Nieuport 17 on Newport in Tustin. It is their Sunday night special - every Sunday night.

                    1. In Orange there are two places I liked. Actually I had Johnny Rebs fried chicken at the Bellflower location. My son took me to Arthur’s for their fried chicken about a year ago and it was also very good. I am not sure whether Arthur’s was doing one of their specials which they change from time-to-time. I miss the chicken fried tenderloin which was one such breakfast special they ran for several months. Just to be safe, call before you go there for the chicken.

In SGV we are lucky to have a Shakey's pizza in Covina that makes FC as good as Roscoe's. I have never tried a OC Shakey's...

                      1. Try the chickenjoy of Jollibee (Filipino fastfood) in Cerritos. It is very much like Shakey's Pizza's Fried Chicken. yum

Try Bbqchicken in Buena Park. BBQ stands for best of the best quality. Really good fried chicken (fried in olive oil). Costs more than KFC though.
