Birthday Place for Girlfriend

Hello all,

Long time chowhound here.

I'm looking for a place to take my girlfriend for her birthday. She doesn't like fancy places rather she likes small cozy bistros, French or Italian. She wants to be able to enjoy our conversation and a romantic meal. We are in the east village although not necessarily confined to the immediate area. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. Le Gigot, in the Village - Cornelia St. - might be a good choice.

A link to a search for Le Gigot:

    V. cozy, great food.

    1. Warm, cozy, great Italian food, nice and must go to Apizz

      1. Sounds like Crispo is calling you!
However, if you wish to depart your area and venture around 84th & Madison on the east side one block from the Metropolitan Museum, I highly recommend the walkdown small Italian gem called Giovanni Venti Cinque. It's pricier than Crispo but it reminds me of a little place in Florence or Rome.
Totally chamring, quiet (maybe 12 tables) and the food is excellent.
I think there is a menu online - Crispo too.
        Buono appetito!

I really love Crispo -- but it's not small by any means! Le Gigot and Apizz are more in line with that small, cozy vibe...

          2. I TOTALLY agree with Princeofpork -- you MUST take her to Apizz. So cozy and warm inside, romantic and the food is so good! (italian)

Fourth vote for Apizz. Get the meatballs.
