Birthday Dinner in/near Park Slope
I am planning a birthday party for my wife and am looking for tips on good places to throw a dinner for a largish party (around 15 people). I would prefer to do be able to do a prix fixe menu so I can have some control over the cost. Thus far, I have had some fairly strange experiences:
- I called Alma (IMHO, the food is good but not great, but the view is fantastic) and was told that they don't take reservations for groups OVER 8 people on weekend evenings. I offered to pay in advance but they were unmoved.
- I called Alchemy (IMHO, a great gastropub and a perfect venue for a large group) and was told that they don't take reservations at all. I explained that, with such a large group of people, I couldn't take a chance that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us but all they were able to offer me was "call us the same morning and we will see what we can do." Not very helpful.
We both love Tempo and will probably go with that (their website indicates some willingness to work with large groups) but I thought I would throw a post out there to see if there were other suggestions. A slightly more upscale but not stuffy place would be preferable (one of my concerns about Tempo is that, while we have found it to be a great place for a quiet dinner, it might not be the most upbeat setting for a large group dinner).
Any help would be much appreciated.
There's new Italian place on 7th called Elementi, they might be accomodating since they just opened and the look is pretty upscale. We did a large table at Magnolia but not prix fixe it was pretty and the food was good. They are on 6th near 12th.
Nehna, thanks for your suggestion. We are having the party at Convivium. So far I've been extremely impressed with how great it is to work with the folks at Convivium. They even let me taste some of the wines that they recommended when I went over to chat with them about the party. I have high hopes for the food. I'll let you know how it goes!
