Fonda Coyoacan in Huntington--closed??

Went there Monday of last week, and a friend went there on Saturday; both times, there were closed signs on the door, with no details.

Anyone know what's going on??

  1. Saw that a few weeks ago. Thought it was just for the day.

    1. Sorry...definitely closed permanently. :-(

      1. Looks like this location may be opening as a Honduran restaurant.

        1. Did anyone ever learn what happened to the Coyoacon folks? Only made it there twice (live in Westchester), but that place had soul.

          1. Hope this one doesn't turn out to be the same as the new Spanish replacement for J&J's Southside. There was nary a word of English on the menu.

No English on the menu is a *good* sign

My goal is to avoid Taco Bell, not to go to clones.

                  1. re: Scott_R

Scott R, If you really mean what you say, then you have eliminated , I guess, 99% of the Mexican restaurants on LI. Please tell us where you dine outside of the now defunct Fonda Coyacoan?

                    1. re: budcar

I have yet to find a replacement.

            2. There is a new mexican restaurant about to open on Woodbury Rd. in Plainview...on the same block as RAmos pizza. ANyone know anything about it?

I've passed by it a bunch of times, from the outside, it honestly looks like your standard Mexican place (Based on the signage and text) I'll take a closer look, but I'm just not getting the sense it's anything more than a Mangoes. I'll check it out and report back.

                1. re: MrPhil

Great. I'll report back too if I learn something else about it.

                  1. re: synergy

I did a quick peek at the menu, Burgers, Wings, "regular" mexican food, There may be a hidden gem on the menu, but from the quick look I didn't see anything.

                    1. re: MrPhil

Mr. Phil, did they open? ...and thanks for the follow up!

                      1. re: MrPhil

We stopped in to try it about a week ago. They don't have a liquor license yet and said they can't let people BYOB...so, we didn't stay. We did take one of their menus with us. Yes, looks like standard mexican refried beans fare. At least they deliver, so when you need that kinda food itch scratched...

                        1. re: synergy

I was under the impression that it was to be Honduran food and not Mexican.

They have freshly made tacos on that menu?

                          1. re: jonathankavner

They do have tacos on the menu...I don't know how freshly made. I took a take home menu but haven't tried their food yet.

I did not get the feeling this is anything other than a mainstream place. you would be better off with green cactus (?) accross the street. There is a salvadorian place in bethpage I'm itching to try

                              1. re: MrPhil

Which Salvadorian place in Bethpage? Sounds interesting.

The replacement to Fonda seemed mainstream to you? How so?

                                  1. re: jonathankavner

This discussion has gone haywire. What started out as Fonda
Coyocoan's replacement has digressed to a Mexican restaurant in Bethpage.
