What's up at Smalltalk?

There is a note on the door of the restaurant prohibiting renter to enter due to non payment of rent... Yikes.

  1. Had dinner there in July, and noticed that there were only two other tables filled.
The street was hopping, and most restaurants were busy.
I asked a friend who lives in the hood, and was told that many were put off by terrible service.
Too bad, as we had a very nice server, and our meal was excellent.

We've had a hit and a miss there so we don't go - I really can't be bothered to spend my small eating out budget on a risk.... :)

I agree with kawarthagirl. My friends used to rave about Smalltalk, I went with them once for brunch and the food was pretty good, although the service was not that great, and then subsequent times it was also hit or miss. The worst was this past May/June. Took my mother there for Sunday brunch, and even though the server was very nice and polite, they were incredibly slow in taking our order and delivering the food...I think that glaciers move faster. And the food was very, very bland. I don't like putting a lot of salt & pepper on my food, but I found myself looking to other tables for spare shakers....it was that bad.

Only surprise to me is how they were able to stay afloat this long. We went once or twice about 3 years ago and it was BADDDD.

    2. I went a couple of times and both times had simply excellent food.

Both times also had lame amateur service and both times the place was a lot less busy than the other restaurants on that strip.

Too bad, the food, in my experience at least, was darn good.

hey guys, I read in my local North Toronto Post that Smalltalk has closed, and the owners from McSorley's down the street are opening a casual Italian place. Not sure if that's a good thing, but there you have it.

      2. Im pretty sure its now painted a hideous bright green and called joey fiascos. eek. opening soon. cluck grunt and low to be a few doors down....
