Mexican Ice Cream at Whole Foods SD [moved from California board]

Palapa Azul, a line of Mexican Ice Cream, is carried at Whole Foods at both San Diego area locations. We've tried the Mexican Chocolate, Mexican Caramel, Flan, and Sweet Corn flavors and loved all of them. The Mexican Chocolate is a special favorite, with a grainy texture and chunks of flavorful bits. Whole Foods also sell paletas (Mexican frozen fruit bars) from Palapa Azul. for more information.

  1. If you get the corn -- let me know what you think. The hibiscus sounds great too. Thanks for reporting.

I have a pint of the corn in my freezer. It's pretty good, though not sure how I feel about corn ice cream.

Even in Mexico... I've never had a corn ice cream that would make my rotation. Its just not that exotic... among the exotic flavors and not that delicious among the world class flavors. When I am in Mexico and want something more exotic than Spicy Mango, Tamarind or Rompope.... I usually order the Avocado, Mole or Garlic ice creams before considering Corn.

Not exactly ice cream... but in the cold, refreshing kind of creamy, corn based genre... a good Tejuino or Pozol would be much higher on my list.

    2. hmm, I found their Mexican Chocolate a little sweet for my taste. I like a darker chocolate with more chili heat to it. How do the other flavors compare for sweetness?

Also, LA Times has an article on paletas:
