Girls Night for Birthday Dinner in Santa Rosa

Suggestions? None of us really eat too much meat, but we like seafood a lot. We are looking for something on the lighter side because we will be going out and drinking that night, and will also be having a large brunch the next morning. We really just want somewhere with a good atmosphere, somewhere where we can get a little dressy, and somewhere with a full bar ;).

  1. Willi's Seafood and Raw seems to fit that perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of the original Willi's, but Raw seems to get very positive reviews, you can scale the meal to be as filling as you like, you can get dressy, and it has a full bar. In Santa Rosa, possibly Syrah? Something about it never excited me enough to go and spend money there, but it sounds like it'd fit the bill well. I liked SEA Thai quite a bit when I went for lunch, and I like its decor quite a bit as well. It had quite a few seafood items, if I remember correctly. Flavor also has an impressive bar. Everything I've tried besides the gnocchi has been mediocre at best, but the gnocchi is very, very good. Kare_Raisu also had positive things to say about the risotto. http://www.chowhound.com/topics/40881... Hope this helps!

Yeah we were all thinking Willi's but dont want to do Healdsburg because we would like to be in downtown Santa Rosa area. Anyone else have an opinion on the original Willi's in Santa Rosa? I was also thinking about the Italian Affair but I haven't been in years... any recent reviews??

Hi, I just did a review on the S.R. Willi's last week, but I don't know how to link the post. Anyhow, I was really disappointed becasue it used to be a fave, but the food and service went down hill. Still love the Willi's up in Healdsburg. Syrah is really $$$$ and Flavor is tasty, but I think only serves beer and wine.....no cocktails-I'm not positive on that so I would double check.

What about Barcode on 4th? Are there any posts?

One of my faves is Osake at Montgomery Village. Japanese food that you can order as much or little as you want. Pretty fun atmosphere on the weekends and close to downtown.

We decided to go to Monti's. Any thoughts?

The Quail with Figs & Cabrales was excellent... be careful many of the entrees end up being salads... so go with something less salady for a first course.

Though I was disappointed with Willi's food, I still preferred it to Monti's. I think Eat_Nopal has the right idea ordering the rotisserie at Monti's, however. For whatever reason, I didn't try them on my visit. Monti's is also a far more desirable location if you'll be going elsewhere afterwards and I think its subdued lighting is better suited for late night drinks.

I've been to Monti's a couple times and only sat/ate at the bar. It's been a while, and everything I've ordered has been pretty good but forgettable. However....... a few stand outs. The raw oysters- amazing, plump, fresh- with mignonette/horseradish, etc. Their soups-always delicious, seasonal receipes, and perfect. Last time I was there DH got the flat iron grilled hangar steak and garlic fries with truffle oil. The steak was on the smaller side but HUGE on flavor. The garlic fries-outstanding! Steak and potatos- who knew?? Good wine list, if not a little pricey. It does have a full bar. I wish it was better on atmosphere for a fun girls night out, but no where in Santa Rosa really stands out in my mind for that. I think the suggesstions on this post are pretty accurate. Have fun!

If I were throwing a boys out party... I'd probably book Cafe St Rose for the night, have Malicki prepare special food & drink,... hire some acoustic musicians & maybe some uh... strippers.... that would be some atmosphere!

Some of his meals are definitely meat-centric as one course I had was a pork preparation two ways: crepinette and braised spare ribs.

But I bet he'd like the challenge of a custom menu.... add to that a bunch of pre WW2 cocktails etc.,

I know I could convince him to do a goat-themed menu as he refers to me as "goat-man" lol

      2. Just so everyone knows, Monti's was EXCELLENT food crappy service but maybe that was because they dont like dealing with a bunch of young, loud diners but whatever. The food was great and we didnt really mind being ignored by our waitress.

OK OK OK fine so we cheated and brought our boyfriends ;) Girls nights are no fun!
I had their special for the night, it was a pesto sauce on angelhair pasta with shrimp and it was great. I also tried their soup for the night which was potato leak and I absolutly couldnt get enough of it. My bf had the pork loin (I dont eat red meat) and said it was very good. My brother had the halibut and that was outstanding (I kept sneaking bites of it when he went to the bar). The only other thing I tried was the rosemary and gorgonzola YUMMY!! Oh and the drinks were strong ;)

Monti's has become a fast fave of mine. Always something interesting on the menu. Lots of small plate options.
