Mealy watermelon! What else can I do with it??

I bought it off the street yesterday. It was so beautiful and soo heavy. I thought it would be perfect. Would it make a good agua fresca? Is there any other way to use it or is it a loss?

  1. I would think anything that you could puree it and strain it would be fine, assuming it still has a good taste to it. I would do agua frescas or watermelon margaritas. I've been wanting to try this recipe for Watermelon Basil Margaritas. http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/s... I would obviously not save some of the cubes for "ice", but you could probably puree, strain, and freeze the juice to make cubes too.

    1. re: Katie Nell

Make watermelon pickles with the rind (send me some, I've been craving them and too lazy to make).

    2. How about watermelon granita? It's simple, refreshing, and summery.

      1. I had a Watermelon Martini at the Grand Lux Cafe one time...Don't know exactly how they made it, but it was quite delish...Regardless of the lack of recipe, I would definitely use it in a blender with crushed ice, liquor of some type, probably Vodka, and maybe some simple syrup or some other type of fruit juice...

        1. Freeze it and use it in smoothies.

Or, puree it and add it to ice cream

Cook it down, and make it into a compote; or, reduce it and stir into oatmeal, then eat it straight or make watermelon oatmeal pancakes.
