Does anyone know where I can find smoked chicken (the whole bird, shredded, any kind) to buy in Montreal? Thanks a lot.

What do you mean shredded? Schwartz's(the smoked meat place) makes smoked chicken. .

And it's spectacular - I highly recommend it!

Yes, Schwartz's smoked chicken (and other smoked poultry, at year"s end holiday period) is splendid - and I'm not a smoked meat aficionada. One question though - must one join in the horrific queues to buy it?

Try some of that in a choucroute...

There is a separate line for takeout (on the right side of the door), if there's a line at all. Usually you can just walk right in.

However sometimes the take-out line can be as long as the eat-in. Around 4:30 on Friday it was, but by 5, neither had a line. Go figure.

I know they smoke poultry around the holidays, but can you order a whole bird at other times of the year?

They keep smoked chickens on-hand, no need to advance order. They serve half-chickens as a regular combo special (with smoked meat & all the trimmings) so there's usually plenty of them available.

What about turkey? Do they do goose and duck as well?

I think those are specialty items that you'd need to order in advance, and I think they may only do them at holiday time. I'm pretty sure they do turkeys, not sure about goose or duck. I'd suggest calling between 9 & 11 am (when they're less busy) to find out all the details. (514) 842-4813

Goose & duck are available around Christmas time only. From my memory: Outside of Christmas, they will do goose & duck as a special order(order in advance & there's a minimum(something like a minumum order of 6 ducks)). Yes, as Kpzoo stated call around 9-11am to find details or placing an order.

Hi VM - according to an ad I have in front of me, Lester's Deli carries "golden brown smoked turkeys". The photo they chose to run is a little odd, though - one leg is in a strange position. However, the spicing looks nice! No mention or ordering in advance.
