Kloby's Backyard BBQ
After several recs on this board, I went last night. I did a three meat sampler of Brisket, dark meat 1/4 chicken, and pork ribs, with spicy sauce. Alll were very good - enough to give Andy Nelson's a run for my money, though Andy's dry rub ribs are still my fave.
The slaw and BBQ beans were also goo, and I tried the smoked sausage sandwich for "dessert". Next trip - perhaps the catfish or the whiting, but definitely the pulled pork.
The only problem is the location - a non-descript store front in a strip mall on the 2300 block of Rolling Road, just north of Security Blvd. Who picked this location?!?!? Even if you are looking for the place, it's very easy to miss it if you don't know the exact address. I drove by it a couple of times in my search.
'Hounds, I think this is another situation where those who like this place are going to need to "evangelize" for it - they sure aren't going to get much impulse-based new customers from drive by traffic. If you like BBQ, please go check this place out, and then if you like what they are doing , *please* talk it up among your friends, your family, strangers on the street, or whoever. If we want places like htis to thrive, we have to help give them "word of mouth" buzz. Consider it an example of "enlightened self-interest". I doubt that there are many who have tried this place who would want to see it disappear.
re: Dennis S
Had the pulled pork yesterday. Definitely good, but not mind-blowing. Wish they had a vinegar hot sauce to add on at the table - only saw Texas Pete. Slaw was good, but again not mind-blowing.
I will go back and try some more of the menu, as well as the place to the right - Chick N' Trout.
The second Kloby's is on Johns Hopkins Road just west of Rte 29. That is just south of Columbia and north of Fulton. The address says Laurel. When I drove by last week, they were still building a seating area, but the kitchen and the takeout area has been operating for a while. Plus, there is a few tables.
