Where can I buy Dried Orange Peel?

I tried a few health food stores, but none of them carry it. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the recommendations. I ended up grabbing a few jars from Penzey's, which were pretty much what I was looking for. Now I have to figure out what to do with half a jar of leftover dried orange peel...

Trader Joe's carries dried orange slices. You could possibly use the whole slice, or just the peel of course.

Penzey's in Grand Central has coarsely chopped dried orange peel.
Iranian grocery stores will also have dried orange peels in thin strips.

Not to sound like something out of a Monty Python movie, but are you looking for "European" style - coarsely chopped, for baking, etc. - or Asian - usually more like mandarins or tangerines, and whole?

European. I'm planning to soak it in vodka for 2 months, following a recipe for duplicating Amer Picon; because I'm trying to acheive a specific taste by following someone else's recipe, I'm nervous about deviating from the exact directions, which is why I don't want to make it myself.

Then the ideal thing would be to ask the person from whom you got the recipe if they used a commercial brand, or if homemade, what type of orange. I know nothing about the industy and don't use enough of it to draw any useful conclusions, but I assume there must be some variation among brands or companies' products. All that being said, I'ld agree with the other poster who recommended Penzey's. They do a lot of business and I'll bet there's is fresher than much else of what you'll find. Maybe even go to the trouble of mailordering rather than buying locally where you really don't know how long their inventory sits here in NYC before sale...

Try grocery stores in Chinatown. It's also easy to make.

What do you need it for? For a lot of uses (like marinating), you could peel tangerines (not oranges b/c tangerines have less of the bitter white pith), cut peel into strips, and dry on very low heat in the oven. Or air dry if you don't need it in a hurry.

Try Kamwo on Grand Street -- it's an herbal shop, and many of the staff speaks English. It's called "chen pi" in Mandarin. If you're planning on making vodka, ask for the high grade one (it's in large chunks as opposed to the lower grade which is in strips).
