hello
live in san francisco bay area, wanted to know if anyone knows of restaurants that serve conch-- fritters, salad etc.... can't seem to find any, or any grocery store/fish market that may sell ?

    I've never seen it here (or anywhere far from the Caribbean).

        Sichuan restaurants serve conch as a cold appetizer with a fiery hot chili oil.

        Great Eastern in SF Chinatown has sauteed conch with scallops and yellow chives. I've had this five times or so and is one of my favorite dishes here.

          I'll second the Great Eastern recommendation. It's one of the items in their "Chinatown Collection" set menu, popular with seafood lovers.

              Yes. One caveat, don't try to order anything but dim sum or noodley-dishes at lunch time at Great Eastern. The kitchen can't handle it and you're better off waiting until dinner hour for more involved preps.

                I can elaborate on that -- the conch is cut into strips and dressed with chili oil and Sichuan pepper. Like other Sichuan-style cold appetizers, it is addictive. --PR

                This stuck in my head so I noticed the conch at New May Wah on Clement between 8th and 9th this morning. I want to say they were $4.99 a pound, but the certainty seems to have slipped out of my head.
