Missing treats from home

  • 1

I moved to Egypt in the summer of 2006 with husband. Since that time I have found I miss many items easily purchased in the states and I have learned to make them. Who knew that English muffins were fried?? As a fan of Rachael Ray I taught myself to make potato gnocchi to add to her Chicken Stoup recipe - yum. Thank God I found Old El Paso flour tortillas at the stores in Maadi because my homemade tortillas just were not cutting it.
Looking for a good steak to grill? Watch carefully at Carrefour because some of their ribeyes are marbled enough to grill. Being a midwesterner I love a good medium rare steak. Most meat here is very lean and tough and usually just boiled to death to make it edible.
Is there anyone in Cairo that can tell me where to buy good meat for grilling?? And where to buy a gas grill (don't like charcoal)?

  1. sorry I don't have any good suggestions, but what about the commissary (if you have access/have friends who do)? not sure if they carry meat there but who knows, could be worth a try.
