Best Tomato Soup?

Would love your guys' thoughts on the best tomato soup/bisque in the Bay Area.

My two cents:
- Bistro Jeanty: served in an amazing puff pastry
- Birley's: simple, a little spicy, very fulfilling

  1. Well, I actually like the ones from Safeway. It's called the Tuscan Tomato Basil Bisque. I hardly like any of their other soups but this one tastes great.

    1. I haven't had this in years, so I don't know if it is still on the menu (and if it is, it would be a rotating special, rather than a fixture on their menu), but the gazpacho at Bistro Aix was really good. I have been meaning to go back to get that again.

      1. I second Bistro Jeanty....the best I've ever had.

I too love the Jeanty tomato soup. I am a sucker for puff pastry too. I remember I was stingy with sharing with others that evening. ;)

There is a also a seasonal item at One Market a tomato soup/bisque topped with creme fraiche. If you into checking out new American interpretations.

        2. I swear, the heirloom tomato soup w/ basil oil at Cafe Majestic was THE best tomato soup I have ever had in my life. Unfortunately, they serve it as an amuse bouche. It really makes no sense, given the season, to serve cream of mushroom soup with a puff pastry top when you could be serving that amazing soup. However, they are not very busy and I bet if you asked in advance (I don't know how often they change the amuse), they would serve a full portion. Seriously, it was that good. Like tomato squared. Now, why the tomatoes in their heirloom tomato salad seemed a bit bland, I don't know. Luckily, the burrata and olive tapanade helped elevate the dish.
